Coastal Pet has been manufacturing pet products and providing exceptional customer service since 1968. A family-owned, American manufacturer, Coastal Pet is committed to leading the industry with innovative, quality pet products that people trust for the pets they love. We proudly manufacture a vast array of collars, leashes and harnesses at our state-of-the-art facility in Alliance, Ohio. This includes handcrafted leather and the majority of our nylon products.

Today’s manufacturing facility is just under 400,000 square feet and we proudly offer more than 7,500 SKUs. We design in-house proprietary machines to best suit our unique manufacturing processes, and automation plays a pivotal role enabling Coastal Pet to yield more products, especially in nylon and leather. Coastal Pet also has an in-house testing laboratory and frequently performs tests on all products to maintain a high level of quality in both materials and workmanship.

In addition, Coastal Pet is proudly known for stellar logistics. With 99.9% accuracy in shipments and consistent on-time delivery, we are the industry leader in accurate/on-time delivery.


Coastal Pet History

Coastal Pet Products, Inc. was founded in 1968 by brothers Jim and Tom Stout.

Our first facility was built in 1974 and employed 10 people. During those early years, we became one of the leading pioneers in the collar and leash industry by utilizing nylon webbing instead of traditional leather.
As the industry grew and matured, so did Coastal Pet:


1968

Coastal Pet Products was started with $300 in the basement of a pet shop.

1974

The business moved into a new 4,000 square foot building.

1975

Introduced a double-ply nylon collection that set the industry standard for quality, nylon web.

1977

The contoured Kanine Buckle, now an industry standard, was developed.

1978

Added an additional 4,000 square feet to the facility.

1980

Expanded the facility by 10,000 square feet for a total of 18,000 square feet.

1981

Circle T® was purchased. This enabled Coastal to expand into leather.

1984

Coastal Pet moved Circle T® from Texas to Ohio.

Introduced the curved, Tuff plastic buckle for Coastal Pet's adjustable collars, marking a new era of color, fashion and selection for a rapidly developing industry.

Moved into a new 38,000 square foot building.

1986

Introduced Titan® line of chain training products.

1987

Introduced the innovative snagless Sassy® cat collars.

Added an additional 30,000 square feet to the building.

1991

Developed the ultra-weld technique to heat seal nylon. Many collars and leashes are now manufactured using this technique.

Released restraints that secured the pet inside of the car.

1992

Used sublimation process to print patterns onto webbing.

1995

Acquired Whitco/Safari® Pet Products, and with it the Easy Rider® Car Harness. This was the best-selling harness on the market at the time.

1999

Patent was awarded for the re-engineered Easy Rider® Car Harness.

2004

Li’l Pals® line for petite dogs and cats launched featuring special sizes and unique 5/16” webbing. The EZ Snap® makes leash attachment simple.

2006

Licensed the innovative Lazer Brite® reflective line that allows pets to be visible from up to 600 feet.

2010

Completed first safety crash testing at an independent facility in accordance with the FMVSS 213 for Child Restraint Systems.

2012

Introduced Travel Right!® accessories that provide a variety of ways to keep pets safe.

Developed patent-pending locking tri-slide that prevents collars from slipping.

K9 Explorer® reflective line launched featuring unique hardware including a moveable d-ring and all metal side-release buckle on the collar and a newly designed scissor snap on the leash.

2013

Engineered patent-pending Shed Magic® de-shedding tool.

2015

Modified the Easy Rider® car harness to accommodate a 75 pound dog and updated the pad design. Continue to invest in safety crash-testing, improve travel products and innovate solutions.

The acquisition of Bergen gives Coastal Pet a full product line offering in the growing travel segment, increases the presence in cat toys, and enters new feeding and watering markets.
