The point of using prongs

Prong collars, also called pinch collars, area series of metal links that fit together by connecting through blunt prongs that point inward toward the dog's neck. The martingale chain loop provides limited closure and allows the prongs to safely distribute the "pinching action" around the dog's neck and not damage the trachea. The collar is designed to prevent the dog from pulling by applying pressure completely around the dog's neck. Unlike flat, martingale, or choke collars the prong protects the trachea as it distributes pressure evenly.

What to know about chain collars

Choke chains (also called choke collars, slip chains, check collars, or training collars) are a length of chain with rings at either end such that the collar can be formed into a loop that slips over the dogs head and rests around the top of the dog's neck, just behind the ears. The "sound" a chain makes is very important when training a dog. The dog hears the "jingle" of the chain, feels the correction and subsequently reacts to it. This is part of the training process and the mystique associated with chain products. When the leash is attached to the "dead" ring, the collar does not constrict on the dog's neck. When the leash is attached to the "live" ring, the chain slips (adjusts) tighter when pulled and slips looser when tension is released. Training with this leash involves a quick jerk with an immediate release, called a "leash pop", "snap", or “correction".

Collar to the Rescue

As a LMT/PFT I have trained horses and dogs. I have found that the prong collar are to dogs as a bit is to a horse. It takes an experienced hand that know how to use incorporate gentle hand to what may appear to be an intense tool. I love using this tool for training; especially the big dogs. I love it for training shelter dogs. The big dogs and pups need to be trained for leash manners in a short period of time. The prong collar allows me to achieve my goals in training behavior consequences very efficiently.

Great product

I love these comfort tips. I was never a fan of prong collars until I got my foster pup Zena. She is very smart, hard headed, and has some dog on dog aggression. I have raised Amer Staff pit bulls for years now they are my favorite breed. Once I was told by my trainer that she has to have a prong collar because she was nonresponsive to slip collars. I was on the prowl for plastics tips. I finally found these at a "mom and pop" store and I have never been so happy with my prong collar. They allow the same corrective action. Same training commands to be understood and followed through correctly without the fear or injury to my dog. I will be buying more prong collars and plenty for of theses tips in the near future for my other 5 pitbulls. Now only if popular retail chain stores carried them
